Ryan McKnight talks about being contacted by the anonymous video leaker and releasing them for him/her. He shares his own faith transition story, how and why he’s contacted by so many whistle blowers, and the implications for these people. Ryan talks more in depth on the process of receiving information, protecting his sources, and deciding whether materials will make an impact. On a practical level, we also discuss conversion/deconversion and what to do with the videos for folks who want to eagerly share them. We talk about how quick the GA’s were in one video to look to parents as responsible for YSA’s inactivity, how that relates to control, and what we can do about it to protect our relationships. We end with Ryan telling us more about his project, The Underground Handcart Company, which helps youth and young adults who have already decided to leave the church, to get help and resources so they can support themselves if they get disowned, fired, shunned, etc.

Excellent interview, I also can only imagine what it would have been like had the Sen. Gordon video come out during the 2012 election. I don’t know how much an impact it might have had, but it is easy to conclude Mitt would not have hit 47% …
I really like the succinct way you brought up the Bible Dictionary definition of faith that says, “All true faith must be based upon correct knowledge of it cannot produce the desired results.” BINGO. One of the best short definitions of why it feels like much of my past feels null and void. I am having to rebuild everything piece by piece as it feels to me I was given only one side of many of the stories. Even a bigger issue I have that this fits into is that it seems to me that the top church leaders don’t have much faith. If God is behind it, then fess up that Joseph Smith married a 14 year old girl (and don’t try and make it sound a year softer by saying “nearly 15 years old”). It is still the same no matter what. Own it guys. Show that YOU really feel this is true and God is behind it and will tell people in their hearts it is true. I am not asking for every Sunday to talk about the unfavorable stuff, but don’t still put stuff in the current manuals that really isn’t true and change the words of the prophets and change their meanings.
Podcasts like this help me to stay real. I just listened to this while on a nice long walk. For me, this was one of the better Mormon Transition episodes. Ryan is very articulate about both his own faith transition and about this extraordinary “Mormon Moment” we are all going through. I heard lot’s of truth here and Christie did a competent job of conducting the interview. I will share this.
I’ve been going through the transition for the past three years at age 60 and it’s been a personal Truman Show. Now, with all the general authorities video leaks combined with all the stuff going on in American politics, I am semi-seriously wondering if this whole existence isn’t just a big, artificial Truman Show or at least a Twilight Zone episode. Truth has literally become stranger than fiction in some cases. Rant over.
. Our context of “who God is” is what our simple minds often conjour up, from oftentimes poorly constructed sermons and li2&1#8fe7;s ups and downs.. and not who HE really is. Full of Grace. Full of Love. Grace itself. Love itself. Cheers Scott.Martin
I really liked the interview until Kristy hijacked it at the hour mark, it detracted at times from what Ryan was trying to say.
